Project • By Zminkowska De Boise ArchitectsPrivate Houses

Charlotte & Matt's home

At Victoria Road in Alexandra Palace, Zminkowska De Boise Architects have replaced a cold, poorly insulated side-return extension with a crafted, split-level addition that rethinks the relationship between kitchen, living spaces and garden. What was once a narrow, dark galley kitchen squeezed between brick walls is now a warm, spatially efficient sequence of rooms defined by natural materials, carefully controlled daylight and close attention to proportion and detail. The existing house – a three-storey Edwardian terrace – had long suffered from a rear extension that did little to support contemporary family life. Only 1.7 metres wide, with a bituminous felt roof, single-glazed doors and a plastic rooflight, it was perpetually... More

CASA 2+1

In a 1950s residential complex in the urban core of Trieste, the project renovates a compact 60-square-meter apartment. The original layout—characterized by rigid compartmentalization and disproportionate room dimensions—proved difficult to adapt to contemporary living. At the same time, the apartment benefited from a favorable position that allowed generous natural ventilation and daylight, qualities that became the starting point for a more open and connected spatial organization. Davide Maria Palusa Davide Maria Palusa The intervention explores strategies for rethinking small-scale housing. Rather than radically altering the plan, the project works through precise adjustments that unlock spatial qualities already p... More

Vasso Paraschi The transformation involved several key interventions: _The door from the private quarters was closed off to improve the kitchen’s configuration _The entrance hall walls were removed to create an open-plan living space _The kitchen was connected directly to the living room area The...
