Villa Dobeška

We are currently conceptualizing a distinctive family house coupled with a medical facility on a distinctive parcel nestled within Prague 4. Positioned on a north-facing incline, the plot’s zenith lies in its southern extremity, profoundly influencing the architectural narrative. From the southern aspect, the residence presents as a discreet two-story structure, seamlessly assimilating with the locale while subtly enhancing the urban panorama. Service zones discreetly inhabit this portion of the structure. Caption Caption In contrast, the building unfolds to reveal a commanding vista of Prague, facilitating graceful vertical circulation across the diverse topography. The building has four carefully designed levels. FLAT 1 Prague

The existing apartment in a classicist corner house in Prague built in 1837 by an architect Jan Ripota, which is a listed building, has undergone a complete reconstruction. The reconstruction of the apartment included its extension into the roof space and the creation of a new roof dormer located in the courtyard of the house. The renovation also included the implementation of an outdoor atrium, which offers outdoor seating in peace and adds natural light to the apartment space. Honza Zima Honza Zima Honza Zima The wooden beamed ceilings in the living room, which were covered by the original reed ceiling, were stripped and cleaned to create the historic character of the original apartment space. Flat 2 Prague

The aim was to make functional use of a small apartment on the top floor of a 1930s apartment building in the centre of Prague. Only the perimeter walls and the preserved parquet floor remain of the sunny studio apartment owned by the architect. The original bathroom and all internal partitions, including the skylight, have been demolished. The dysfunctional entrance to the apartment was solved by moving the door opening and changing the opening of the original door. The main idea was to open up the apartment as much as possible and make it one spacious and airy unit. This was achieved mainly by building a glass bathroom along its entire length. Vanguard

The interior of the apartment in the Vanguard Prague project goes to the core, admitting structural elements, revealing its static essence. In its austerity, it functions as a blank canvas, it stands out honestly, nakedly. Caption Caption Caption Caption It gains its distinctiveness in artistic detail, where it is not afraid to choose an invasion of intense red. It thus adds an element of contrast to the interior, an individualistic artistic style and a revival to the exact character of the space. Caption Caption Caption Caption More

HOUSE IN PRAGUE – LIBOC

The design of the new family house in the old Liboc district replaces a dilapidated building that used to stand there in the past. The new house has two floors with a partial basement. The L-shaped ground plan situated in the corner of the plot refers to the old building. The facade of the main part of the house remains in the original place where it clearly delimits a piazzetta formed by an intersection of the corner streets. Compared to the old state, the shorter facade is offset inwards, widening the street. It consists of a floor that is partially embedded in the sloping terrain with one additional floor on top. The entrance to the plot remained on the north side together with the main entrance to the house in the center of the facade.... More

Komunardů XXXV

A multifunctional building has risen at the corner of the Komunardů and Přístavní streets, providing the missing piece for one of the typical regular Holešovice blocks. It is replacing two five-story apartment blocks that had to be taken down after the floods of 2002 due their compromised structural stability. The task was to design a modern multi-purpose building that would universally meet all current expectations following from contemporary lifestyle and work practices, while confidently yet respectfully working with the historical and modern aspects of Holešovice.  The height of the house matches the traditional structure of the surrounding apartment blocks. The corner mass is protruding two floors... More

Crystalline Community Centre features dynamic lines and material expression

South of Prague, the Sedlčany Community Centre by architects A8000 s.r.o. consists of two buildings that create a natural transition between the town’s urban fabric and less densely developed area that surrounds. The first building is an apartment block that terminates the street. The second is a prayer house, rotated towards the town’s centre. While the apartment building is more traditionally conceived in expression and composition, the prayer house is more contemporary with its material expression and crystalline form. Credit: Ondřej Bouška The prayer house comprises three concrete slabs leaning against each other. Clad with an expanded sheet of metal, a red foil is placed beneath the sheets to create the final c... More

House by the Cemetery

The project site is close to the historic centre of one of Prague’s townlets Reporyje and is near the local old cemetery. The character of the surrounding area varies from vernacular structures and small single-family houses to apartment blocks. The new house reflects the scale of the immediate residential neighbourhood. The site orientation and difficult urban conditions dictated the house plan to form an L shaped volume wrapped around a private courtyard. The street elevation lines up with the neighbouring house. The house then opens towards the western quieter part of the site with the courtyard and garden. A garage and car port function as discreet buffers from street noise, being supported by a densely landscaped edge.Internally the hou... More

SinnerSchrader Studio Prague

'Form follows function', one of the strongest mantras of modern architectures found another tight fit at the new studio premises of SinnerSchrader in Prague. The Czech based Kurz architects designed a new office space in an old industrial building. Both, the architects and the German based digital agency, combined the ideas of interior and digital architectures. Throughout the course of a half-year period, they used agile processes to plan, build and create a space for 60 digital workers. With a fixed budget and timing, the scope of the solution was constantly re-prioritised and iterated upon - in an open, joyful and proactive manner. Trust and willingness to execute stood in the foreground of the international collaboration. Elements like... More

Pavilion of Humanity in Brno

Moravské Náměstí is a busy square in the centre of Brno, and a vibrant center of Brno’s social life. As it lies right on the Brno ring road boulevard, inspired by the Ringstraße in Vienna, thousands of people walk and drive through it every day. Few of them, however, realize the historical complexity of the spacious area, which used to be part of the city’s fortification system from 1243, a Nazi center during the war, and memorial sites . Last summer, the square gained another historical chapter when it was temporarily redesigned by the Brno architecture studio CHYBIK + KRISTOF, to hold the needs of the multigenre festival “Meeting Brno.” The festival’s theme was the notion of European unity, as it is currently greatly endang...
