Casas BAB
Casa BAB is a group of four urban patio houses developed across adjoining 10 × 20 metre plots in San Rafael, Mendoza. Rather than treating each residence as an independent object, atelier industrial established a common architectural and construction system that accommodates different ways of living through variation within a repeated framework. A limited material palette supports this approach.
Concrete columns and beams, prefabricated slabs, and brick walls form the primary construction system. The plot is roughly rectangular, measuring approximately 275 by 115 meters, with a slope equivalent to two storeys in both directions. The approach to the site distributes different volumes at the center of the plot, on a horizontal platform conceived as a large public plaza. Mixed-use building located in Forel (Lavaux), in the activity zone on the edge of the agricultural area. The project layers industrial premises on the first two levels and two penthouse apartments above.

The structure of the first two floors is designed to offer maximum flexibility for the adaptation and combination of spaces according to the occupants’ needs. To preserve the continuity of these two levels, the building does not have a stairwell for access to the apartments. Instead, a shared elevator, accessible directly from the outside, serves the apartments, which also have private external staircases located at the ends of the building.

The project is located between the scenic shape of the Køge Highway and the circular infrastructure of Køge University Hospital. The construction has been developed in close collaboration with the client and it houses the Danish headquarters of the pharmaceutical company CODAN, and has office facilities for the company’s ownership group, the supporting administrative secretariat and the Danish distribution department. Additionally, the building contains a warehouse with medical devices, for distribution to Danish hospitals.
