Party Wall
Party Wall, by CODA, is the 2013 winner of the Young Architects’ Program at The Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 in New York City.
Party Wall is a vertical shade that creates space by the shadow that it casts; that acts as a stage-set for a series of micro-performances, and that sheds its skin in order to accommodate those events. The true definition of a party wall is intended: a wall shared between different users. Weaving together the “bones” and “blanks” that are the bi-product of skateboard manufacturing, Party Wall creates a porous façade that is inhabitable at a range of scales. Pole Dance
In this proposal for MoMAPS1 ’s Young Architects Program we take the opportunity to further contemporary explorations to create sensory-charged environments, rather than finite forms. Especially in the case of envisioning a temporary structure for the PS1 courtyard, which needs to perform two seemingly contradictory tasks (calming and carousing), a worthy proposition will need to consider the choreography of situations rather than object-making.

CHROMAZON
Chromazon is an architectural installation designed for the courtyard of PS1 in Queens, New York. It is a concept for an open-air canopy, which provides shading and lounging for the museum visitors as well as an exciting event space for the rave parties held on weekends during the summer months. This prestigious competition is hosted annually by the MoMA/PS1 in order to showcase young talent in the field of contemporary architectural design. From a large pool of nominated applicants five finalists are chosen to compete in the actual competition. While only the winning project is being realized, all five finalist projects are honored with a reception and an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
