South Gate Market (Nanmen Market)
Since 1906, not a day has gone by without the old South Gate Market being filled with noise, scent, and memories. After 1949, Taiwan's complex geopolitical position took away the possibility of many family reunions. But when people gathered in this marketplace where the old southern city gate used to stand, preparing the dishes their grandparents once made, they created their own community. Since then, on every New Year’s Eve, the South Gate Market transforms into a crowded, loud space brimming with scents that feel like home.

Power Workshop
The Power Workshop is located in the EKA Art District in Jinqiao, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is originally the equipment and power workshop, Building 462, China Shipbuilding Naval Instrumentation Factory (CSNIF) in the 1950s and 1960s. Commissioned by the owner, we carried out the overall planning and renovation design of the area. In the renewal and revitalization of the building as the core of the park, it’s necessary not only to respect the history and preserve the original cultural memory as much as possible, but also to meet the needs of contemporary business, lifestyle and other multi-functional business, which means that new vitality was to be injected into the old building, and a dialogue that transcends time and spac... Bangs St, Prahran
This first-of-its kind community-based renewal will replace old, unsuitable housing with well designed, attractive homes that also improve the local area.

Incorporating 7 buildings (heights between 3 and 12 levels), the 455 apartments will be delivered under a unique procurement and PPP model. The design creates a ‘village’ of buildings offering both social and private (build to rent) housing within one site. A consistent but varied materials palette provides a unique identity to each bui... More

A theatrical renovation to Shanghai’s Time Square recalls the drama of the stage
In Shanghai’s Times Square, this renewal of an existing commercial building stands nine-storeys in height and accommodates approximately 53,200 square meters of lifestyle shopping, fashion brands, and various restaurants. Inspired by theatrical concepts, the striking new façade features a dramatic ‘stage curtain’ made from aluminium pipes.

The building’s existing structure had been rebuilt and rearranged multiple times previously, resulting in an incoherent circulation pattern. To resolve this, Nendo straightened out the building’s central passage and relocated escalators to create a smooth circulation and shopping experience.

Emptying and peeling from the inside an old tacky house can have nice&lofty results...
Erasing, cleaning, demolishing or peeling are also tools for interior renewal. Leaving the skeleton seen and starting anew can reveal virtues that were previously denied. On this case freeing the old brick walls, eliminating partitions and freeing floor heights reinvented this residence via concrete flooring, radiating heating, and other lofty looks into an 'almost home' condition, by blending it with offices.
