Ohio University Chemistry Building/Clippinger Labs
Ohio University recently completed a multiphase expansion and renovation project, which included constructing a 72,000-square-foot new Chemistry Building and renovating the existing Clippinger Laboratories building. Flad Architects collaborated with architect of record BHDP on all phases of the project.

Originally constructed in 1965, the existing Clippinger Laboratories building housed the Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geography, Geological Sciences, and Physics & Astronomy. In recent years it had outlived its original life expectancy. The university needed new and updated space to accommodate enrollment growth and the equipment required to invest in innovative research.

Torrey Heights by Breakthrough Properties
Offering exceptional views of the Pacific Ocean and its surrounding natural landscape from every point on the site, Breakthrough Properties’ Torrey Heights Development works in tandem with its environment to express its own character while echoing the site’s layered geologic formations in its coffered façade. The steeply graded glass fiber reinforced concrete window panels establish its dynamic, tessellated signature envelope.

Nexus on Grand
With a glass curtainwall façade providing natural daylight and views to San Francisco Bay, Nexus on Grand is a new life science campus providing 140,000 square feet of state-of-the-art research laboratories, office space, and amenities in the heart of the South San Francisco biotech hub. Flad Architects partnered with developer Healthpeak Properties to design the five-story, modern, urban campus to provide flexible lab and office spaces supporting groundbreaking research of today and tomorrow.
