Revitalization

The Barra Funda district, a traditional neighborhood in São Paulo’s western zone, has received a major urban intervention, marking yet another chapter in its ongoing transformation. Designed by the firm Biselli Katchborian Arquitetos Associados, the new residential project occupies the site of the former Municipal Asphalt Plant, which operated from 1951 until its decommissioning in 2019. Jaroslav Kvíz Jaroslav Kvíz The idea of our design is to revitalize the fragment of the former barn, which is situated in the southern area of the village. Its new main function is to serve as a technical background of a small village, acting as a "modern barn". Old stone walls of the barn were rebuilt in the original height. New subtle steel structure supports a lightweight hovering roof. The barn is merged with its natural surroundings. The museum is located at Zuiddijk 16-18 in Maassluis, in a late 19th-century building recognized by the municipality for its historical significance. In the 1980s the museum expanded, adding a large gallery on the garden level and above it, at street level, an office area. The renovation of this lobby is one of the three main components of the renovation. In the design, the new entrance area takes the form of a lantern. The project included the revalorization and adaptation of the former hairdresser (and originally waiting rooms for the tram and kiosks with milk and newspapers) in the historic residential building No. 1 (Laubenganghaus No. 1) in the area of the WuWA (Wohnungs- und Werkraum Ausstellung) residential exhibition from 1929. The remodeling of the internal and external areas of the architectural site at Crekvina, Kastav, is inspired by the fragments of the wall and apse of the never completed baroque Jesuit Church of St Mary. The exact construction date of the church is unknown. According to different sources, it was built somewhere between the beginning and the end of the 18th century in place of a previously demolished and considerably smaller church dedicated to St Mary. Before the adaptation, Crekvina was a plateau hosting a parking lot and a belvedere along its eastern perimeter and the remains of the church sanctuary and western nave wall with five chapels.
