Wanchai’s emergence and growth harks back to the 1900s, when it was known for its Edwardian terraced buildings, a catholic mission, numerous small workshops, and the Island’s first electrical plant. At the request of the Old Wanchai Revitalisation Initiatives Special Committee, Swire Properties submitted a proposal to the Government for a Public-Private Partnership for the Revitalisation of Old Wanchai in general, and streetscape improvement works in and around St Francis Street, Sun Street and Moon Street in particular. Throughout the 18th century the "Alte Posthalterei" was a household name: Marie Antoinette, Napoleon, Prince Metternich, Zar Nikolaus I. and many more used to rest there on the busy travel route from Vienna to Paris. The historic building ensemble has been family-owned for a long time. With great enthusiasm OTT ARCHITEKTEN took on the challenge to bring back life to the historically protected building as a modern event location consisting of a hotel and a restaurant. PEAK´s architectural redesign and the conceptual idea result from the necessity to revitalise an empty office building. The design consciously avoids copying the existing architecture. The façade elements, the landscape architecture and the expressive design of the lobbies represent stylistic inconsistency nevertheless corresponding as a whole with the original building.   This project is based on the intriguing concept that existing and new architecture can be intelligently combined with each other. Project name:  Five Corners Square in Warsaw Typology: Landscape Localization: Warsaw, Poland Year: 2016 Team: Jakub Figel, Filip Kurasz     IDEA The main project idea is to emphasize the integrity of the square with the surrounding buildings. On the groundfloor level, the strips outlined from the buildings corners symbolize the acoustic waves that are creating the “melody of the place”.
