The Tokyo Edition, Ginza

Mori Trust invited BAM to design the landscape areas and green walls of the second EDITION in Tokyo, a boutique structure designed by Kengo Kuma Associates. Based on the Ginza city planning green building requirements the project was required to have more green space at ground level than was permissible by the architectural programs. Thus a solution for a green wall on the first floor facade was introduced, creating vertical landscape elements that became part of the overall facade design. Beijing Jiugong Retail Landscape

The site is at the Jiugong metro station, near the Milu deer park in southeast Beijing, Daxing District.  Take a solid block of architecture. Carve out volumes from the block. Insert landscape material into the new spaces. Such is the formula for the interlocking landscape and architecture of Jiugong. In this intimate give and take between architectural mass and landscape, the materials of the landscape are pushed into their most technical realm. Pavers are set onto pedestal structures. Planters are filled with volcanic glass to lighten the soil loads. Plumbing, gas, and electrical lines are carefully wrought to make spaces for root balls. Lloyd yard

Walking along the Lloyd Pier in Rotterdam's former port area, the city's bustling past is still palpable. Here, robust warehouses once stood and ships departed for the world. By 2025, this area will have been transformed into a vibrant residential and commercial area. The unpolished Lloyd Yard residential block is the final piece of this transformation and strongly evokes the site's past. Consisting of seven sturdy buildings surrounding a green, adventurous courtyard, it houses 136 energy-neutral homes. A striking feature is the publicly accessible "Maasvenster" – a roof garden offering stunning views of the Maas River.
