Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Gottlieb Paludan Architects win international competition to design world's largest waste-to-energy plant in Shenzhen, China The team of Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Gottlieb Paludan Architects has won an international competition to design the largest waste-to-energy plant in the world. Located on the mountainous outskirts of Shenzhen the new Shenzhen East Waste-to-Energy Plant will incinerate 5,000 tonnes of waste per day - equalling one third of the waste generated by Shenzhen's 20 million inhabitants every year. The Spinning Mills in Vejle is one of a few original and unspoiled industrial building complexes that has preserved its original structure and unique industrial expression. It has been pivotal for the regeneration that both the exterior and the interior of the building continue to tell the history of the industrialisation of Vejle, while meeting the requirements of the new functions. The regeneration project’s design aims to preserve the cultural value of the Spinning Mills whilst introducing a contemporary feel to the buildings and the surrounding area. The Kromann Reumert head office is a modern and flexible office building set in an attractive site on Copenhagen’s northern waterfront – Kalkbrænderihavnen. Comprised of a large right-angled U-shape that rests on a solid base, the building embraces a courtyard. Its ground plan is symmetrical, consisting of two wings that are connected by a striking foyer building which houses the entrance area. The symmetry is broken, however, by the presence of three floating, curvilinear overhanging balconies in the transparent foyer volume, which incorporates a number of the shared functions. The Beach Promenade (Strandpromaden) is a unique residential project situated on one of the most attractive sites in northern Copenhagen in the Bay of Svanemøllen. The apartments have a view to the coast up north and to the sailing and rowing clubs in the Svanemøllen Harbour on a backdrop of the Copenhagen skyline to the south. The expansion of the School of Nursing and Health Care Practice involves two new built wings – a main wing, which runs parallel with the existing centre, and a transverse connecting wing. Containing the main entrance and a small library, the connecting wing appears as a bridge in the landscape. The bridge juts out from the main wing and highlights the meeting of the two volumes. Designed as a light and open construction of glass and larch, it is a transparent structure that connects the original building with the new main building. Studio is an ambitious project which will significantly enrich Malmö’s city life. Studio is a 55 metres tall, fourteen-storey structure that is essentially flexible to function as a mixed-use building, accommodating bars, cafés, restaurant, a hotel, retail outlets, offices, a conference hall and a multifunctional hall, all under one roof. The design for the headquarters of Nykredit, one of Denmark’s leading mortgage banks, is conceived as a transparent cube, providing clear visual connections with Copenhagen Harbour. The ten-storey glass structure is one of Copenhagen’s largest office buildings and features a dramatic atrium flooded with natural light providing links to all levels. The entrance level houses a reception area, a water sculpture by artist Anita Jørgensen and an auditorium. schmidt hammer lassen architects has designed an approx 460,000 m2 masterplan for the Tianjin Dongli National Science and Technology District. The masterplan has a public and active design that allows users and near-by residents to fully activate the district as a social space. The design is unified by the Synergy Ring, connecting and activating all elements in the plan and allowing access through a pedestrian and bicycle based system. The Synergy Ring will work as a catalyst for the city, creating a link of potential synergies both on a business level, between the different quarters, but also between cultural and administrative buildings.
