Vinrosen is a contemporary family home designed around a central courtyard. The architecture heavily leverages the ground floor plane by dissolving the edges between the interior and exterior spaces. The architecture develops SLa’s ongoing ideas of screening, which in this instance takes the form of an operable facade throughout the first floor. A critical integration of architecture and landscape lies at the heart of this home. More

62V was conceived of as a ‘raw’ house embodying the principal of using basic but honest materials expressed in such a way as to create a rich aesthetic from simple elements. The project included the refurbishment of a turn-of-the-century cottage built around an internal courtyard to optimise the lifestyle benefits of a seamless indoor / outdoor relationship on what is otherwise a relatively small site. The palette of concrete, blockwork, brick and timber forms a robust counterpoint to the simplicity and ephemeral nature of the quaint Queenslander. More

Sorrel Street is a project that explores the juxtaposition between historical context and contemporary architecture within a broader subtropical paradigm. Beyond the initial stark contrast that presents between the new and old, a more subtle debate about edges, openings and thresholds is being had. The house seeks to engage with the land at the rear of the site where the natural topography meets the outdoor living areas. Punctuated by a swimming pool that bounds the site to the west, the combined indoor and outdoor living areas form a single level, consolidated space where the practical needs of a young family can poetically be met. The Mosman House is a ‘Brazilian Modern’ inspired home perched on Sydney Harbour overlooking Taylors Bay. The house mediates between grounded courtyard living on the north and a dramatically cantilevered edge that addresses the enviable water views to the south. A textured and honest palette of concrete, stone, timber and steel creates a timeless and robust backdrop to the interiors, exquisitely executed by Justine Hugh-Jones, as well as the landscape, masterfully curated by William Dangar. The architecture juxtaposes ideas of solidity and intimacy, with lightness and extroversion, all beautifully crafted by the hand of County Constructions for our generous and supportive clients. More
