Big-Little House
Big-Little House is a small house with a small footprint built on a small plot but with large volumes. What makes this house large? One-fourth of the 1500 square foot plot is empty and left unbuilt for a garden. All the major living spaces, viz., the double-height living room, the family space, the dining, and the kitchen, are tied together by the fact that they all inhabit a large volume that overlooks the garden.

An average city transmute (001)
“An average city transmute (001)” is an exploration of revamping possibilities for any typical urban small sites with existing dilapidated concrete buildings. Anyone who wishes to buy a plot in the city of Trivandrum, is confronted with extremely small plots brimming with their old concrete houses with congested rooms and claustrophobic spaces with barely any openings. The project presented a similar condition, a typical city plot- small 4-5 cents land, flanked by houses almost abutting the boundaries with absolutely no exterior space except the stipulated setbacks. The site is located at kadavanthara, between the congested urban layouts of Ernakulam, Kerala. It’s a rectangular corner plot with a road on south and west side, a house in the east and a vacant plot in the north. The client’s brief was to have a spacious house utilising the maximum space available with ample amount of light and ventilation and the floor plan should be based on vastu following the dimensions.
