HC Home | Harmonic Stair

'Harmonic Stairs' is the design of an intertwining between the client's request for stairs with light visuality, uniquely, representative and our idea to be sculpture as they are positioned in the central part of the house. The acquisition of wave-decorative elements from the traditional stairs on one side and the modularity of each base (two replicated modules) creates a contemporary-parametric spiral that pulls in the center then leads to different parts of the house. Caption Caption The strength of the staircase elements is so great that it reflects in the design of the furniture and the spaces of the house giving it an identity. It's attractive red and the green of the courtyard's liveliness create an incarnation between insi... More

Kengo Kuma adds chain clad staircase to Gaudí’s Casa Batlló

Just like Gaudí’s 1906 masterpiece Casa Batlló is a tribute to the light of the Mediterranean and inspired by Gaudí’s famous chain models, Kengo Kuma created a staircase using 164,000 meters of chain.  Jordi Anguera As a part of the new 2000 square meters Casa Batlló Experience, Kuma was asked to design the staircase. The architect dresses the stairs in aluminium curtains which catch the light as if they were fishing nets. According to the architect they play with light through brightness, silhouettes and shadows. The Monumental Palace Hotel - Oporto

The mythical building, from the year 1923, was revitalized and our presentation stood out in the harmonious details of the staircases, handles, doors and entrance canopy. Those elements stand out the elegance and luminosity of the space that maintains the Art Nouveau and Art Deco style.Nobility materials and delicacy of the lines create an atmosphere in a cozy and luxurious environment. The central staircase, at the entrance of the hotel, had to be completely rebuilt in iron and bronze. The handrail, about a ton of material, was completely built in cast bronze.A craftsman job!Several decorative pieces were built in polished brass, like the entry doors, with 200kg of weight each. The entrance canopy was also a heavy piece, built with about 2 t... More

In a quaint streetscape in South Yarra alongside its terrace house neighbours, Caroline's contemporary silhouette remains sympathetic and respectful. Foremost, its eloquent brickwork façade and dark folded cladding provide a contrasting backdrop for the sculptural street trees. It’s entry through a concealed gate leads up stone steps to the grand entry, where a double height void and spiral staircase draw the eye upwards to the tall window capturing the changing sky scape to the south. With a focus on space, natural light and fluidity, Caroline has a sculptural quality which radiates from the central spiral staircase throughout the 3 bedroom home. For such a small site, the house feels generous in proportion, with formal livin... More

Loft Panzerhalle

2013, architects of smartvoll came out as winners at the internationally advertised contest for the loft in the Panzerhalle. Their design captivates through specific, spatial dramaturgy. On 350 square meters and two storeys, the classic idea of a “loft” is noticeable, yet is being reinterpreted in many regards. „I never play with the façade, I do not live there“, said Adolf Loos. As Loos has concerned himself with definitions of space, smartvoll does the same, more than 100 years later. A special focus lies on the exhaustion of materials and of what is technologically possible. Architecture unfolds on the inside. The room- and material-concept develops the encountered and retains the established. Smoothed and... More

Nandos Harrogate

Whilst the available space was restricted with walls on three sides, the staircase still needed to be eye catching and become a statement piece for both customers and staff alike. 3D Renders were produced of various designs to give an idea how to best utilise the space. In the final design and subsequent creation, a metal carcass was clad with bitch ply sub layers to create an interleafed effect and then each stair tread topped with an American white oak as the finishing touch. This white oak is hard wearing and is perfect for the consistent use in busy commercial environments. The outer spiral is wrapped in steel for additional structural support. Finally a 42Ø Mild Steel handrail was hand wrapped in leather to create a warm touch an... More
