A four-story museum building is a combination of large, inverse, intersecting cylindrical shapes, forming a singular object-type structure reminiscent of sea waves frozen in motion. The building balances structural integrity, functionality, aesthetics, and cost to arrive at a design that meets all the necessary criteria, following the best traditions of finished architecture. It is made of high-performance insulation composite stainless-steel panelling with low environmental impact. Located on North Lamar Boulevard just north of downtown Austin, Clayton Korte’s office embodies the firm’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and to fostering discourse in the design community. Officially named Design Office, the mid-century office space is home to two design practices, Clayton Korte and Word + Carr Design Group, a landscape architecture firm.   The 1963, steel-framed, brick-infill building needed a lot of work, but Clayton Korte recognized the untapped potential of its raw spaces. Loft 8B resides comfortably in the 497 GW Building, where we translated the architectural design of the cascading glass facade to the interior, with a folded bogwood spine that spatially organizes the apartment— separating and connecting, displaying and privatizing. The bogwood’s lit axis branches to the music room, guest bathroom, master bedroom, and bathroom. The interior also includes a blue-glass master bathroom, which contains an overflow bath and steam shower, and art storage areas, which are either within the bogwood spine or in rooms concealed behind pivoting walls. The MVRDV project is built on a beautiful site by a small lake in the English countryside near Thorington in Suffolk. From the road, the barn is almost invisible; the front being only 7 metres wide, with a pitched roof, faces the long straight driveway approach, suggesting a small house with a traditional shape. The volume, however, has a length of 30 metres. At the midpoint it starts to cantilever over the descending slope; a balancing act made possible by the rigid structure of the building; resulting in 50% of the barn being in free space, and giving a wide view over the Suffolk landscape, adjacent lake and surrounding gardens.
