Revitalising Old Wanchai
Wanchai’s emergence and growth harks back to the 1900s, when it was known for its Edwardian terraced buildings, a catholic mission, numerous small workshops, and the Island’s first electrical plant. At the request of the Old Wanchai Revitalisation Initiatives Special Committee, Swire Properties submitted a proposal to the Government for a Public-Private Partnership for the Revitalisation of Old Wanchai in general, and streetscape improvement works in and around St Francis Street, Sun Street and Moon Street in particular. The proposal is founded on the belief that Hong Kong's cultural fabric is one of its greatest assets, and that it is possible to develop a sustainable urban future through the development of this unique resource... The installation is based on the phrase "Everyone wants not to live somehow", which is a quote from Dorota Maslowska's acclaimed drama "Między Nami Dobrze Jest" ("All Good Between Us").
SUPERGUT STUDIO
The message is constructed on wordplay. The original quote has been treated as a sort of anti-palindrome: a sentence that, when read backwards, takes on an opposite meaning.

The essence of the Breathe-in/Breathe-out installation throbbing in line with human’s breathing is creating an illusion of synchronization between the neon light (element of the city) and the human organism (the city’s inhabitant). The idea is to direct the installation’s influence at a single recipient and his individual sense of “here and now”.
