Eugen Bolz Student Residence

In the south of Germany, Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architekten and Wiesler Zwirlein Architekten have completed the Eugen Bolz Student Residence — a CO2-neutral student dormitory commissioned by the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart to replace a building that was demolished in 2021. Set in parkland in the town of Weingarten, the modular timber construction is completed in an autumnal colour palette that marks it as part of the natural environment: raised above the earth, the building provides privacy with an arboreal experience. Student Depot Poznań

Interior design in an existing facility with interesting architecture and history gives rise to a temptation to keep as much of its former character as possible. But how to reconcile the monumental style of a luxury communist hotel with the freshness, energy, and dynamics of a contemporary student residence? The designers from MIXD managed to successfully fuse both worlds and combine their best elements while designing the common areas of the private student dormitory, Student Depot Poznań. PION Studio The Polonez hotel in Poznań was one of the flagship hotel investments of the 1970s.
