Dr. Sindhuja's Dental Clinic

The intrinsic link between spaces and the feelings they evoke takes on a new meaning when over time, certain spaces start being recognised by the emotions they inspire. The most common example would be a Dentist’s Clinic. The feeling associated with visiting the dentist is almost always that of fear. When Studio Mohenjodaro took on the project of designing the interiors for Dr. Sindhuja’s Dental Clinic, located in Mohali, they also took on the challenge of redefining the emotions inspired by the space. Minimal, pristine and clean, the design for the clinic interiors required an approach that would not only enhance a sense of calm, but also keep intact the ‘clinical’ quality of the space for the patients to feel re-assured yet comfortable.Ano... Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Exp

The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, in Seattle’s Chinatown International District, provides space for community meetings and events, public space for the neighborhood, theater space for performances and presentations, exhibit spaces for community art and emerging Asian Pacific American artists, family-centered learning environments and leadership development for neighborhood youth. The design grew out of the original, 1910 multi-story building that served as a social center and living quarters for Chinese, Japanese and Filipino immigrants. Drawing inspiration from the building’s rich history, we saved as much of the original building as possible. In addition to building materials – such as timbers cut out between... More

EHA Family Trust Residence and Guest House

This residence is sited in a natural clearing of aspen trees on a lot situated between the Teton Range and the Snake River in northwestern Wyoming. As the site is dominated by wetlands; natural water courses and man-made water features figure prominently in the design. The house is orientated to capture views and provide favorable southern exposure. A building structure of regularly spaced bays defined by custom columns and trusses was utilized. The material palate attempts to reconcile the tension created between modern architectural form with traditional reclaimed exterior siding, and weathered cor-ten corrugated roofing. The interior materials offer a refined palate of laminated bamboo, polished concrete and Russ... Art Collector’s Retreat

Every site, every house has its strengths and weaknesses. The architect’s purpose is to see the essence of the home through the distraction of its present state. To help the home reveal its authentic self. In this home, the strength emanated from its original architect, Paul Kirk. Kirk was a founder of NW design: simple forms and details, regionally appropriate materials and a wash of Japanese serenity. Much of this composure was lost in ensuing decades of trendy remodels. And there was a period weakness in the original design’s front elevation; the house sat as a blank wall on the street, without windows or architectural features and an entry through the carport. We chose to enter the mind set of Paul Kirk, honoring him and the art collecto... Park Avenue Prewar Apartment

Michael K. Chen Architecture (MKCA) has completed both the gut renovation and interior design of a 2,800-square-foot prewar apartment on Park Avenue for a young New York family. The renovation concentrated on maximizing the already wellproportioned formal spaces, including a generous entrance gallery, formal living room and dining room; while converting the dark and crowded storage and service areas into functional contemporary living elements. Because the historic layout was quite segmented, MKCA set out to create enlarged openings to increase circulation between spaces. MKCA’s selection of furniture, finishes, and unique art and design objects played a large part in maximizing natural light, visual interconnectivity, and playfulness throu... More

Project • By Niimori JamisonPrivate Houses

House / Laboratory

House / Lab is the renovation of a 1 room apartment by NIIMORI JAMISON ARCHITECTS in an existing apartment building in Osaka, built 1962.Due to an extremely tight budget, the project was procured in a somewhat unconventional manner, namely that it was built from completely salvaged building materials, painstaking researched and sourced. The project was largely designed in response to the availability of these found, low-cost, and surplus building materials. The architect Yudai Niimori worked closely with the project builder (and collegial contractors around Osaka) to source waste and off-cut material from various construction sites. Often, this salvaged material was repurposed for the requirements of House / Lab.These constraints came to in... More

Joe's

The screen wall Joe’s collection is made of teak wood and woven natural fiber with “Vienna Straw” patter. The design is curved and round: it recalls the idea of the arches and doors protecting and dividing the spaces. The very bright colours (red, green and blue) create a play of lights and shadows, of chromatic contrasts: they allude to the shapes and purpose of old-style screen walls, but recalling the contemporaneity thanks to the “avant-garde” materials and the design that combined a modern style to a more vintage one. Dual

The DUAL line presents new combinations of teak wood and woven natural rattan: the natural fiber gives a really warm visual and tactile sensation, but the square shapes of the design firmly combine this line of furniture to a more contemporary style. The DUAL collection is actually named after the “duality” of the materials used: the fine sanding of the wooden parts makes them extremely smooth, giving an effect of great softness at touch. By contrast, the roughness of the woven fiber with the “Vienna Straw” pattern recalls the tactile effects typical of the Italian woven furniture of the beginning of the last century. More

BVB – Meeting Halls Old Stock Exchange Vienna

A reduced shell holding, in its center, art—this is what presents itself as the result of a cooperation between AllesWirdGut and the Austrian Bankers’ Association.Perfectly tuned together, an artwork by Johannes Deutsch and the interior design by AllesWirdGut translate boardrooms from the 1960s into a contemporary design language and also pay homage to the architectural heritage of the Vienna Stock Exchange.Built between 1847 and ’77 in the style of Neorenaissance, the Vienna Stock Exchange Building was reconstructed after destruction by a fire in the 1960s, with the boardrooms being redecorated quite in the spirit of the era. Clad in timeless materials with subdued contrasts, they convey a sense of simple elegance. Low suspended ceilings a... More

No.2 - SENTOSA COVE SINGAPORE

Located in Singapore's luxury seaside residential enclave of Sentosa Cove, the clean lines of the exterior facade of this home belie the air of casual sophistication inside this family home. Commissioned by an industrialist based in China, the house is designed to capture the natural elements and provide a resort-like yet homely holiday retreat for a multi-generational family.Facing a canal with a private boat berth at the rear, the home is designed with an abundance of water (a swimming pool and 4 ponds) and every room in the house has a view out to water or a garden space. The emphasis on water throughout the house isn’t just for aesthetic reasons though. The water bodies promote air movement through the house to cool the h...
