When we first met with Pinterest, it was to discuss their office in Palo Alto. There were 12 people in the group, but they were growing quickly. Evan and Ben, Pinterest’s founders, asked us to design an office environment that could reflect their unorthodox character and growth. Our response was through monumentality. Rather than buying a desk for every new engineer, we proposed one large table that would reach maximum capacity over a long period of time. It measured 32’ x 32’, and could easily fit sixty people. Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk founded Airbnb in 2008. Brian and Joe were classmates studying Industrial Design at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), and became roommates when Joe convinced Brian to move to San Francisco. The idea for Airbnb sprang from their need to pay rent. The IDSA design conference was taking place in San Francisco in August of 2007, and most hotels were sold out. Badoo Development Office The Moscow office of the Badoo company, had to get gifted young programmers together for improvement and development of one of the most popular dating services in the world - badoo.com. The office was created for web developers and focused on technical, not administrative function. The result is very impressive. In fact, the office is located in one of the most luxurious business centers of Moscow – the Legend of Tsvetnoy, which is based in the city center, at the well-known Tsvetnoy Boulevard. It is indicative that this office is to some extent a return to the roots of cooperation of za bor architects and the largest Russian IT-corporation Yandex. The first office developed for Yandex by za bor architects is in the same building of the Benois business center in Saint Petersburg, but on a lower floor. One of Europe’s leading interior design and architecture studios PENSON has delivered Google’s new super HQ at Central Saint Giles, Covent Garden, London. The 160,000sq.ft HQ covers an amazing variation of floors including the Main Reception, a Lala Library, Gymnasium, Cafés & Restaurants, a Town Hall and many other trinkets all with long reaching panoramic views of London’s skyscape. As Gummo were only going to be renting the space on the first floor of the old Parool newspaper building in Amsterdam for two years, i29 convinced Gummo to embrace the mantra of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ to create a stylish office space that would impact as little as possible on the environment or their wallets. i29 developed a theme that reflects Gummo’s personality and design philosophy – simple, uncomplicated, no-nonsense, yet unquestionably stylish with a twist of humour.
