Following the total destruction of the old trail centre in a fire in 2013, Kungälv municipality arranged an architectural competition for a new, modern trail centre in the Fontin area of Kungälv municipality. Tengbom's Kotten (the Pine Cone) proposal won first prize in the architectural competition for the new building. Ulf Celander The new, modern trail centre includes a café, lockers and dressing rooms. Architectural quality and sustainability permeate two rental apartment blocks in solid wood in Fristad, outside Borås in Sweden. The buildings are based on the concept "Wood right through" for the municipal housing company FRIBO. The project demonstrates that a high level of originality, together with solid wood and low energy technologies, does not have to mean high production costs or rents. Two low-energy buildings with walls, roofs and joists of solid wood and a facade of wood chips stand harmoniously in a copse. Mästerhuset at Mäster Samuelsgatan in central Stockholm contains offices with a capacity of 3,000 work places and a commercial ground floor. The challenge has been to create a modern and flexible office building of high international standard and at the same time bring more street life and businesses to the area. The building is permeated by quality materials and is expected to become the first new construction in Stockholm with the internationally recognised environmental certification LEED-NC 3,0 Platinum. Tengbom transformed a parking space on Katarinavägen in Stockholm into a neighbourhood node, public meeting place and surface water management during June 2015. The project is an example of green retrofits - strategies for refurbishing grey infrastructure into green infrastructure, and examining what this transformation means for public space. The conversion of parking spaces to community nodes with ecosystem services may be closer than we think. A parklet is a temporary or permanent sidewalk extension that provides more space and amenities for people using the street. Carousel, with interiors by Tengbom, is a restaurant in magnificent and vibrant premises on Gustav Adolfs square in Stockholm, opposite the Royal Opera House. The people behind the restaurant are restaurateurs Lukas Moderato, Robin Moderato and Christopher Ellertsson. Robin Moderato was previously a member of the trio behind restaurants Vassa Eggen and Boqueria which also have interiors by Tengbom. Carousel is a lively restaurant which references its historic environment while evoking a sense of new life, both in the premises and the area around Gustav Adolfs square. The Psychiatric Hospital gave us the opportunity to provide a strong symbol of humanistic architecture. Research has shown thatthe design and structure of the physical environment can aid in patient recovery and the term ”from hospital to hotel” can, therefore, serve as a metaphor for the ambitious goals of this project. The design as a whole offers the potential for de-dramatizing illness and for helping the patients to progress towards a more rapid recovery. We have chosen to minimise the number of material choices, colours and structural components to ensure that the core of the building provides a tranquil background that is sustainable in the long term and that can be filled with a range of content over time.
