This project reimagines terraced housing by developing an innovative typology that directly responds to a challenging site and rectifies the failures of classical layouts. Located on a 7808 m² plot in Szczecin, Poland, the design was constrained by a 110kV overhead power line, which created a large, angular no-build zone, and by local guidelines requiring steep (min. 25°) roofs within a 9.5m height limit.

CEBRA designs Danish housing complex with irregular star plan and sculptural form
Danish architecture and design studio CEBRA has transformed a former steam mill site in the small Danish market town of Malling into a new housing community. Built beside Malling train station, the contemporary housing complex is named “Malling Dampmølle” after the site’s historic 19th century steam mill (dampmølle).

Terraced house transformation
The existing, extreme range is a single-family house from the 1970s burdened with usability and functional shortcomings, resulting from the housing standards of that time, years of accumulation, and modifications. The Investors intended the house to become a comfortable, spacious, modern, and friendly space for an energetic retired couple. The plan, therefore, envisions not so much a correction as a true revolution both inside and outside.

A Tuscan veranda in London by Turner Architects
The vision of shared meals on a Tuscan veranda was the inspiration for this kitchen extension to a terraced house in London.

Turner Architects drew on the Italianate style of the terrace house by inserting perfectly proportioned Romanesque arches that frame views through the house and out into the garden.
