The Venice House creates a garden sanctuary in the city. Located on a long, narrow lot in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles, the house comprises a dramatic series of folded roof planes and a collage of textured metal and wood exterior surfaces. The bulk of the house has been placed on the eastern side of the lot, making a linear garden on the western side. The wood living pavilion projects into the garden space, with a soaring hyperbolic paraboloid roof formed by exposed Douglas fir beams. A pool has been placed directly outside the living area, allowing this prominent part of the house to be mirrored by water. Originated by a spin-off from the University of Rostock, the company is growing rapidly and dynamically. The decision for a new building has been made for about 220 employees at the location Rostock.The new location is realized in an attractive position at the water front on the Silohalbinsel in Rostock. With a client brief of a day and night, fine dining restaurant to accommodate 110 people along with sufficient private and group dining spaces for all age groups, the creation of a warm and relaxed atmosphere was of utmost importance to enhance the dining experience of the patrons. Located overlooking the San Dieguito Lagoon, which is on the western side of the San Dieguito River Park, the Birdwing Open Air Classroom was designed as a place to provide open-air educational opportunities for all ages about tidal wetland restoration. Rigidized® Metals Corporation provided the perforated, deep-textured metal sheets that make up the sun shade piece of this project. The metal is 16 gauge 316 stainless steel in 2B finish, perforated, and rolled with Rigidized® Metals’ pattern 6WL®.This structure is designed to meet the needs of the community while fitting into the natural landscape of the San Dieguito Lagoon.
