Jacobs Music Center
The Jacobs Music Center, home to the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, is now a top-tier venue for concerts, comedy shows, corporate events, film screenings, and more. This nearly 100-year-old hall has been beautifully transformed into a modern performance space while preserving its historic charm. Reopened in September 2024, the hall boasts state-of-the-art digital sound and lighting technology that can accommodate up to 1,823 audience members.

Bennetts Associates and Citizens Design Bureau transform former Hertford Theater into new cultural hub
UK architectural studio Bennetts Associates has designed BEAM, a creative arts and culture venue nestled in the center of Hertford, a historic town in south-eastern England. The original venue, the former Hertford Theater (built in 1977), was extensively renovated and transformed into the new cultural hub. The building’s distinctive form is shaped by five undulating volumes that wrap around the existing “malthouse” fly tower — this angular zinc-clad structure references a nearby medieval castle (the fly tower allows for the storage and movement of stage equipment).
London-based Citizens Design Bureau won an invited competition to design the interiors of BEAM.

BOULIMIE THEATER
"Boulimie" was originally the title of the official cabaret show at the 1964 Swiss National Exhibition. It later gave its name to the venue where it was created. The venue became a permanent fixture on the Lausanne scene, and from 1965 onwards offered a program that gave pride of place to humor in all its forms. It thus became a theatre, and its productions gradually toured Switzerland and the French-speaking world.

Co Adaptive uses mass timber in the transformation of an adaptive reuse building
Brooklyn-based Co Adaptive Architecture has transformed a former metal foundry, built in 1902, into the Mercury Store, a light-filled developmental and community space for theater artists. In this progressive adaptive reuse project, repurposed elements from the 12,700-square-feet (1,180-square-meter) double A-frame, timber-and-brick building were used to renovate and open up the interior. Wood is the project’s main material: old longleaf pine timber was restored and reused and new insertions in the building were created from cross-laminated timber (CLT). Unlike high-carbon building materials such as concrete and steel, CLT greatly reduces carbon emissions.
