Working from home, but lacking a dedicated office space for their up-coming startup company, the owners decided to extend their double Victorian house into their backyard, which had been left unused until now. The brief was to create a light-filled study for 2 people, with the ability to occasionally host meetings, and a small external space in the back for some greenery and a herb garden. Rauti-Huus, Zurich

Together with the neighbouring building at Albisriederstrasse 226, the commercial building designed by Rudolf Kuhn in 1947 forms an architectural ensemble whose consistent urban appearance forms a piece of Zurich’s industrial architecture. The subtle façade modulations, the rhythmic design of the stair towers and the large and bright entrance areas are typical of the late 1940s. Subsequent additions and extensions were removed and the four-storey concrete frame building was extended with a lightweight timber construction. House CCB in Switzerland sees the transformation of a barn into a luminous contemporary residence

In the Swiss Alps, architect Ralph Germann has transformed a traditional barn into a luminous and contemporary residence. Behind monumental stone walls, is a bright interior washed with natural light. Lionel Henriod The original barn building was constructed in 1854 and over four generations of inhabitants has evolved from hay barn to stable, then to wine storage. The Floating House

The concept was to provide a single elegant form, cantilevering out into the tree canopies and over the landscape. Conceived as a house within the tree canopies the extension is clad in sweet chestnut which enhances the relationship to the surrounding mature trees.
