Ypsilantou Residence

Ypsilantou Residence is the transformation of an existing apartment guided by a fundamental principle: designing with what is already there. Rather than treating the apartment as a neutral shell to be replaced, the project begins by recognising and amplifying its inherent qualities: its balanced proportions, abundant natural light, the depth of the floor plan, the sequence of spaces, and the traces of an architectural sensibility rooted in the Athenian modernism of the interwar period. Margarita Yoko Nikitaki The intention of TRAIL, together with the apartment’s owners, was not to recreate the architecture of the 1930s, but to reinterpret its atmosphere. The ambition was to translate into contemporary living something of the cla... More

Sweet Nolan

Sweet Nolan, located in Syntagma, is the third culinary project of the Nolanverse. This modern pastry shop maintains a conceptual and design connection with the other planet – members of the brand. TRAIL [practice] aimed to revive memories of urban pastry shops within a contemporary space, the image of which transforms throughout the day and with the changing of seasons. Yiorgos Kaplanidis Yiorgos Kaplanidis The design concept was to create a moving storefront, that is constantly changing. The idea came into practice through a system of marble display cases specifically designed to accommodate custom-made pastry trolleys. The vertical and horizontal marble elements constitute an autonomous structural system, effectively org... More

ELEPHANT & CASTLE

Elephant & Castle is a two-level hair salon in the center of Athens, conceived as an urban interior landscape with references to the materiality of a public space in the city. Housed within a typical Athenian shell, the interior is transformed into an environment of care and formal repetition. Margarita Yoko NIkitaki Margarita Yoko NIkitaki Margarita Yoko NIkitaki Trail Practice’s aim was to integrate the space into its existing context, not through mimicry but by setting the new in dialogue with the old. Spatially, this translated into the creation of a dual system: a full-length mirror acting as a diffusion mechanism, and a shelving wall composed of Dionysos marble shelves and white metallic storage units. TANPOPO

Tanpopo is the Japanese word for the dandelion plant and the title of a cult Japanese film from 1985 that follows the story of a young mother who takes lessons from a truck driver on how to make the perfect ramen. It is also a Japanese restaurant located behind Klafthmonos Square, where food is served in a casual atmosphere and a canteen-like setting that directly engages with the sidewalk. Margarita Yoko Nikitaki Margarita Yoko Nikitaki Margarita Yoko Nikitaki Margarita Yoko Nikitaki The design intention of Trail Practice was to blur the boundaries between public and private, bringing the action (of cooking) into continuous interaction with passersby. Spatially, this translated to positioning the food preparation area... More

PINK THREAD

The apartment is situated in the heart of Kypseli, within a 1970s building that stands as an exemplary model of Athenian modernism. Trail Practice aimed to emphasize the distinctive characteristics of the apartment, crafting a narrative that blends heritage, craftmanship and functionality. Margarita Yoko Nikitaki Margarita Yoko Nikitaki The design process began with an elaborate mapping of materials, techniques, emotions, and memories, connecting Athenian modernist architecture, the neighborhood’s unique character, and the homeowner’s personality. This complex interplay of tangible and intangible elements was translated into impactful interventions that function as parts of an architectural collage. Margarita Yoko... More
