Warm interior

The existing house (photos featured at the end) has a rich history: it was bombed during World War II and only the half-buried floor with the bedrooms survived. In the 1960s, the upper floor was rebuilt in wood.  Respect for the existing. Santos apartment was undertaken for a young couple in their late 20’s. They requested a timeless, elegant and serene home. The 1950’s apartment is located in the trendy neighborhood of Jardins, São Paulo. The renewal of it’s 120sqm was designed to integrate the living space fully, while clearly defining three different functions: kitchen, living room and home office, whose rhythm is given by a thoughtful sequence of volumes and voids.   The wooden entrance tunnel in Pau Ferro wood intends to guide and intensify the sensorial experience of those who enter from the dark hallway to the bright and clean living spaces of the apartment. The Simmons & Simmons office no longer fulfilled the purpose for which it was intended. After considering various scenarios, the decision was taken to reduce the office space by about 10% (from 5,000 m2 to 4,540 m2) and fit out the entire office with a new interior to prepare it for the future. DZAP designed the new interior, managed the project and carried out the renovation. Throughout the renovation Simmons & Simmons continued to work in the office. To minimise disruptions for the employees and complete the project as quickly as possible, we drew up an efficient plan for a phased move, with an overflow area to be used as a swing space.
