As the name suggests, this home serves as a weekend getaway in Baroda for our cofounder Aesha’s family. The brief was clear: the clients envisioned this penthouse to embody the essence of a farmhouse retreat, blending rustic charm with modern comforts. The client is a property developer working across India. They are  looking to create luxury weekend homes on the scenic hills of Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh. The brief was to create a retreat for the city dwellers with privacy and also provide common recreational facilities. Located in Valle de Bravo’s Rancho Avandaro is Casa de la Abuela, a weekend getaway for a close-knit family. "La Casa de la Abuela" translates to "Grandmother's House". The main actor is not the house, but the landscape. The breath-taking force of a natural landscape like this one, must not be eclipsed, but complemented and strengthened. Rafael Gamo While programming a space on the site, architecture must follow the virtues of the site and nature. Therefore, the project scheme virtually eliminates the private rooms of the program by placing them on a semi-underground level, which allows rooms to keep a view towards distant landscape. The home is an understated, richly textured four bedroom coastal weekend residence surrounded by vineyards. It is sited on a natural escarpment to retain the vineyards as a significant landscape feature. The plan is divided into three segments that gently twist and pivot along a line in the landscape. Beds and rumpus to the south, entry and guest bedroom in the middle and living spaces with master bedroom to the north, all running along the natural ridgeline of the site.
