As the name suggests, this home serves as a weekend getaway in Baroda for our cofounder Aesha’s family. The brief was clear: the clients envisioned this penthouse to embody the essence of a farmhouse retreat, blending rustic charm with modern comforts.

The journey begins at the arched door, a soft invitation leading you into the heart of the home. The river-washed stone flooring, with its natural texture flows throughout the space, grounding the home in a sense of continuity and warmth. In keeping with the spirit of a shared family home, the design thoughtfully integrates seating options suited for all ages. Each loose piece of furniture is custom-made, crafted from reclaimed teakwood and intricately woven Indian rope.

The kitchen is an open, social space, with a central island that serves as both a service platform and a visual division between the kitchen and the living areas. Above, the ceiling lights, designed in the shape of inverted matkas, are suspended like sculptural pieces. The arched hallway, an elegant passage that mimics the form of a traditional arcade, leads gently upward, guiding you to the upper level of the penthouse. This transition is both spatial and sensory. The powder toilet is a standout, welcoming you with rich Indian green marble that adds a touch of luxury to this small, intimate space. In the bedrooms, minimal wood furniture, inspired by the subtle elegance of tropical modernism, fosters a serene retreat. The simplicity of each piece contrasts beautifully with the natural light that floods the space, bringing an effortless lightness to the interiors.

Every corner of the home is thoughtfully designed to harness the abundance of natural light, carefully balancing materials and textures to create an atmosphere of tranquility. The rich heritage of Indian handicraft is woven through the design, enriching the space with a deep, cultural resonance.
