Founded by architectural designers, Tao Liu and Chunyan Cai in 2016, atelier tao+c is an emerging design studio that based in Shanghai. Our design experiments span from architecture, interior, products and teaching, paralleled with studio's continuous research on the restoration of old buildings and the domestic landscape in the livingcondition.
Atelier tao+c aspires to incorporate our architectural approach with interior design, and withdraws to the inner world, allowing the space to grow on its very own narrative, to blur the boundaries between the exterior and interior, to meticulously bridge the gap that we often neglect. The elementary forms, clean proportions and the unexpected variations in the section are introduced to pop out the exquisite spatial scale in every project. Atelier tao+c weighs highly on discovering the beauty in everyday life, by employing the local materials and the unpolished technique to express our attitudes towards detailing and craftsmanship. We desire to minimize our design to the very essential, to capture the undefined route of everyday, to probe into the complexity of daily life yet in a simple way.
Atelier tao+c has designed and completed a number of projects across different design disciplines. Our projects have been featured in many professional design media, for instance, wallpaper*, dezeen, architizer, FRAME, yellowtrace, DIVISARE, Architectural Digest, ELLE DECOR, IDEAT, archiposition and gooood among many other domestic and international press. During the past four years, the studio is named The 100 Most Influential Architects and Interior Designers in China 2019 by Architecture Digest 100 and our projects have been awarded by many international prizes, like AZURE Awards, dezeen awards, Architizer A+ awards, World Architecture Festival awards, INSIDE awards, World Interior News Awards, Design for Asia Awards, A&D Trophy Awards among many others.
