Autonomous Furniture Collective

Autonomous Furniture Collective is a design and build furniture company manufacturing contemporary furniture pieces using British Columbia wood. Our pieces are sculptural forms while maintaining their ability to be used in everyday life. Kirk Van Ludwig designs and oversees production of furniture pieces for Autonomous Furniture Collective, founded by him and his partner-in-life Jodie Webb in late 2013. The furniture pieces designed by Kirk are rooted in wood and use industrial materials such as steel, concrete, and acrylic. All furniture is sustainably sourced and made in British Columbia, Canada. We are involved at the very beginning, at the point of selecting the log with the landowner, straight through to the finished furniture piece, including cutting, kiln drying, and storing for years to allow the wood to cure properly. Custom commissions are offered as well – for furniture and commercial/residential design installations. Kirk draws on 15+ years experience in millwork projects, and is constantly reading and learning about design and new materials, often lecturing and teaching educational sessions on wood knowledge, and known for sourcing and curating some of the most amazing wood in British Columbia. Ed Dix, Production Manager, has over 25 years of experience woodworking, and has built some of the swankiest boats in the Pacific Northwest in his career. Ed engineers our product designs and manufactures beautiful pieces of furniture.
