Back in the 1970′s George Goodwin, a master carpenter and home builder, was handpicking the finest materials to build his own dream home. He acquired some longleaf pine logs a fisherman friend recovered from the Suwannee River and the rest is history.
The virgin quality, rich red patina and amazing grains of this “underwater” heart pine, as well as the rarity and historical significance, became his passion. He realized others would value this treasure and opened Goodwin Heart Pine Company in 1976.
Since then, Goodwin Company has earned the reputation of one of the most highly respected manufacturers of antique heart pine and heart cypress in the world. Installed in homes and businesses throughout the country, Goodwin’s river recovered® wood has also been featured in several publications and on many television shows.
Goodwin obtained the Federal Trademark for River-Recovered® in 2002, and in 2007 and became the first reclaimed wood company to produce engineered wood flooring ‘made in America’ at our Micanopy, Florida sawmill. Precision Engineered Floors are now part of Goodwin’s extensive product offerings.
The cornerstone of owners George and Carol Goodwin is a tradition of commitment to using only the highest quality wood and strict grading standards…standards you can count on in a complex industry where national grading does not exist and so-called heart pine is not always “all heart.” Esteemed architects, designers and builders specify Goodwin’s products for use in luxury residential homes, historical renovations and commercial projects including office buildings, universities, libraries and high-end retail establishments. Prominent work includes: This Old House corporate offices, private residences of Bob Villa, Paul McCartney, Frank Lloyd Wright and Ted Turner, Brownwood at The Villages, the Charnley-Norwood House and the Texas Governor’s Mansion.
