Grzywinski+Pons Ltd is a New York City based practice led by principals Matthew Grzywinski and Amador Pons. Our practice is committed to design excellence predicated on quality, beauty, innovation and a rigorous approach to detail. Dedication to this pursuit has led to significant levels of experience in designing and administrating the construction of the built environment. With each commission, while anchored in a specific site and circumstance, Grzywinski+Pons endeavors to serve the programmatic and functional essence of the project through the application of concept driven design. Elements like light, form, means of circulation and material selection address function, aesthetic and experience cohesively. We treat project constraints as opportunities to catalyze innovation. Every commission is rife with challenges - zoning restrictions, code, budget, schedule, political concerns. Our process engages these realities as inspiration rather than impediment yielding results that transcend preconceived solutions and avoid the pitfalls of innovation for innovation's sake. As a LEED accredited firm Grzywinski+Pons embrace principles of sustainability in our design. We have developed a diverse body of built work including retail, commercial, hospitality and residential commissions which have garnered international attention.
Matthew Grzywinski studied at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, earning degrees in Architecture and Industrial Design. As a solo practitioner he designed and administrated the construction of commercial and retail commissions as well as a host of built residential projects in New York City and beyond before co-founding his practice with Amador Pons in 2002. He has been a speaker, critic and contributor to architectural and urban developmental think tanks, summits and charettes in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Tokyo, Toronto, Basel, Munich and Milan.
Amador Pons earned his Architecture degree at Syracuse University. After several years of managing the construction of multiple renovations and new ground-up construction buildings in and around New York City in addition to co-producing Earthquake! (Springer Wien Press 2001) with Lebbeus Woods, Pons joined Matthew Grzywinski to establish their practice in 2002.
