HB Design was founded by Hans Brouwer in Hong Kong in 1995 following a distinguished career working for the internationally renowned firm of Sir Norman Foster and Partners. He joined Foster and Partners upon graduation in 1986 and was made an Associate within a year and a half. In 1988 he was despatched to Tokyo to help establish a design office where he was involved with and responsible for Century Tower, a mixed use office building and the Kawana Houses, situated on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
He was promoted to Project Director in 1992 and sent to Frankfurt, Germany, to set up the design office responsible for the new headquarters tower for the Commerzbank. The project subsequently redefined high-rise, environmentally responsive design with the introduction of sky-gardens, triple-glazed cladding systems, operable windows, chilled water cooling systems and de-centralised environment controls.
In 1995 Hans moved back to Asia to establish HB Design in Hong Kong. In 1998 he re-located the office to Singapore and established a regional office in Phuket in 2003. On the strength of increasing projects in Bangkok and Pattaya, HB Design opened its Bangkok office in 2007.
HB Design’s influence has spread throughout Asia with projects in China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam as well as further afield in the Middle East, Mongolia, Spain and the United States.
Our portfolio of work displays a consistent output of finely crafted buildings with a high degree of sophistication. The hallmark of the work is a clean contemporary expression that responds creatively to the unique requirements of each project.
