Alex MacMaster launched 'MacMaster' in 2009 specialising in contemporary lighting and furniture products that purvey individuality and quality. Offering a growing range of high end pieces MacMaster’s style is influenced by contemporary European design, whilst the methods of construction are based on traditional British craftsmanship.
An early interest in woodwork was cultivated when Alex met furniture designer John Makepeace. Over the years John's advice has proven invaluable in shaping Alex’s understanding of design as an expression of ‘contemporary culture’. His studies at the University of Lincoln introduced him to fellow design student, Limahl Asmall, where they formed a strong friendship and enthusiasm for good design. In 2008 they graduated with 1st Class Honours. Alex went on to found MacMaster whilst Limahl gained further experience completing a Masters under acclaimed designers Assa Ashuach & Tomoko Azumi. In 2010 the business moved from Dorset to London and Limahl was integrated into the company.
