The studio is led by Ar. Deepak Khandelwal, whose work is driven by an ongoing inquiry into building responsibly and meaningfully within today’s context.
Graduating with distinction, his early academic exploration of sustainability revealed a clear gap between theory and practice. This prompted a shift away from conventional approaches—towards a more grounded engagement with material, craft, and construction.
He went on to work closely with practitioners such as Revathi Kamath and Vasant Kamath, where he developed a hands-on understanding of mud construction, low-concrete building systems, and climate-responsive architecture.
This experience became foundational in shaping a design approach rooted in material honesty and environmental sensitivity.
His postgraduate studies at CEPT University further expanded this perspective—shifting focus from individual buildings to the larger built environment, and the role of design in shaping everyday life and urban conditions.
This journey is further anchored in a legacy of practice.
Building upon the foundations of Khandelwal and Associates, a 30-year-old firm led by his father, Dilip Kumar Khandelwal, the studio carries forward an inherited understanding of construction, relationships, and on-ground realities.
Praaktya Studio emerges as a contemporary extension of this lineage—bridging experience with a renewed approach towards design, material, and the built environment.
Today, the studio works across residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, while continuing to investigate alternative construction methods, including earth-based architecture and low-impact systems.
The intent remains consistent: to create spaces that are contextually rooted, spatially intuitive, and enduring in their relevance.
