Hytte, which is Norwegian for cabin, is a hospitality concept developed for a new era of uncertainty in travel and growing interest in more sustainable modes of tourism. A collaboration between Aylott & von Tromp and Koto Design, the modular and sculpture cabins capture a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic for those looking to escape into nature while staying closer to home.

Oriented to both smaller enterprises and larger commercial ventures, the Hytte design can be delivered either off the shelf or bespoke. Each concept begins with a singular modular cabin unit which can be combined with other units in multiple configurations. Cabins can also be grouped together, in a traditional village community type of arrangement.

Clad with a black timber that wraps from the facades to the roof, the structures merge with their surroundings. The interior finishes echo this with earthy tones throughout.

The creators explain how Hytte is a response to the unique challenges posed to the travel industry in the past year: ‘This is a direct reaction to the current hospitality marketplace. On one hand, there is a natural and personal reaction to mass-market holidays, overbearing commercialism and a growing sense environmentalism. Then throw into the mix Covid-19 and you have the perfect storm. Whether it will be shorter localised getaways reachable by car, bike or foot, or opting for an increasingly isolated accommodation, much of our newly acquired social distancing habits are here for the long-haul.’
