Envisioned by GrizForm Design Architects in collaboration with executive chef and owner Mike Friedman, Aventino is a Roman-Italian culinary haven located in Bethesda, Maryland. Aventino brings together the dual concepts of a refined restaurant and a casual pizza shop, presenting a unique dining experience inspired by the rich history and flavors of Roman cuisine.

The name Aventino pays homage to the Aventine Hill, one of the seven hills where Ancient Rome was originally built. This historical context influenced the overall design language, integrating elements reminiscent of Roman heritage with a contemporary twist. The dual-concept space of Aventino features both a sophisticated Italian restaurant alongside the AP Pizza Shop, a casual, 20-seat eatery offering pizza slices to-go.

Encompassing 6,258 square feet, Aventino presents a thoughtfully segmented space that caters to different dining experiences. The design challenge presented by varying street elevations led to the creation of distinct microclimates within the establishment; the space’s overall design is divided into three main areas, reflecting the culinary concept of dishes made simply with three primary ingredients.

The raised dining area is minimally adorned, offering a clean and refined ambiance. The lower dining area is richer in finishes and colors, providing a more intimate atmosphere. The use of deep greens and gold accents creates a luxurious yet inviting space for guests. Anchored by a large emerald and marble-clad bar, the bar area exudes a cozy charm with its dark, rich color palette and comfortable seating. The bar's design fosters a relaxed environment perfect for enjoying classic libations and observing the action.

The restaurant’s color palette includes rich greens, golds, and mustards, which are carried throughout the space to create a cohesive visual experience. The mustard velvet chairs are a notable highlight, seamlessly integrating with the overall design and branding. Custom elements are also featured prominently, from the chef’s counter to the hand-crafted booths, enhancing the uniqueness of the space.
