NON is a modern restaurant of Uzbek cuisine in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Cotton is one of the historical symbols of Uzbekistan. That’s why we used it as a part of the design for individual pendant and table lamps, which have become a strong focus of the interior. Lamps are hand-made with individual designs. Cotton and glass are very tactile natural materials with diametrically different properties. We placed the cotton twigs in glass bulbs and integrated light into these bulbs. The softness and lightness of cotton create a harmonic contrast with transparent, hard, and smooth glass. Each glass bulb has a unique shape and relief. The luminaire structure is made of craft glass and brass. The shape of glass flasks for cotton was made irrational and imperfect. So each of them has a unique look. Natural cotton is placed inside. The warm white light blends beautifully with the natural texture and color of the cotton. Due to the special design of light sources placement inside, the luminaires give beautiful soft light spots in the surrounding space—this way, the functional and aesthetic problem of lighting is solved. The light sources in each lamp are located so as to illuminate both the cotton inside and space outside the lamp like tables and a restaurant hall. At the same time, the internal structure of the lamp is arranged so that the light source does not shine directly into the eyes of visitors but illuminates the required space. And the cotton itself, illuminated inside the flasks, becomes an attractive element of the interior. The project presents an excellent combination of historical-cultural context and modern trends in an Uzbek restaurant's interior.
