The new education building 127 for Building Design at Denmark´s Technical University at Lyngby Campus, covers 2000 m² and will house the new Building Design Education. A hybrid engineering education which a strong focus on architectural design, the course is brand new and still developing, it is a mixture between architectural design and engineering, and will offer a more technical focus than the traditional architecture schools in Denmark.
The building will offer a green student environment, with hanging gardens and a flexible set up to encourage a social study environment. The building is designed with an overall significant architectural identity, with a spatial flexibility, easily adaptable to the developing education. The main inspiration derives from the old fashioned factory hall, which has proved especially changeable for warring purposes. The main structure encompasses a 22 meter long roof attached to the two end facades, creating a rectangular box. As the Building Design education develops, the physicality of the building will follow.
A grass covered roof helps gathering rain water for re-use and with a combination of large widows on the facades and climate screening we have ensured daylight entering into the center of the building as well as a healthy indoor climate.
