In 2004, Make were commissioned to prepare a 'vision' for Edinburgh Waterfront, one of the largest single urban regeneration schemes in Britain, capable of delivering a high-density development with a strong urban character and providing all the components necessary for a sustainable community. In response, our masterplan is designed to establish a well-defined urban structure, create a distinctive and appropriate sense of place and establish the infrastructure required to ensure the commercial viability of this major regeneration project.
These proposals create a vibrant new waterfront for Edinburgh and Granton which creates new linkages between existing communities and has the potential to become a new destination for both Edinburgh and Scotland. The creation of a new beach and two sections of quayside provides a varied waterfront experience, linked by a seafront walk.
A clearly defined public centre at the heart of the high-density site provides a focus for commercial and leisure activities, and a range of office, retail and leisure facilities are complemented by a richly varied residential provision. The result is a balanced townscape with its own identity and sense of community. Make has subsequently produced detailed development plans for the Lower Strand area of the masterplan and an outline planning application for Harbour Road East.
