The Utrecht Library chose Zecc to design the interior of the new Central Library on the Neude. There is a clear vision on what the new library should represent: a modern, dynamic and multimediatic centre. The concept and presentation of Zecc Architecten suited perfectly with the onganization's notion and image on the new library. Diverse activities - lectures, debates, exhibitions, presentations, workshops and courses - are concentrated under one roof in this building.
The location is extraordinary: the very heart of the city. The reprogramming of the building is a unique choice to give it back to the city and its dwellers. To connect and to surprise through fresh and sustainable architecture is our main goal here. The former post office on the Neude first opened its doors in 1924 and is since 2011 empty and closed off. In July 2015 it became official that the Central Library Utrecht is going to be relocated in this historical building.
Soon this library is going to be the place where knowledge is shared and developed as consequence of various interactions and diligent work. Keywords are: comfort, experience, revelation and encounter. The ambition is to create a highly sustainable building, with a responsible attitude towards natural resources and energy.
