Did you know Johan de Wittstraat has been a go-to spot for skaters since the 1980s?
It all started with a classic wooden halfpipe during the golden days of vert skating. Then in the '90s, it shifted to a more street-style setup. But times (and tricks!) change — and this legendary skate spot was ready for a whole new ride.

But, what does a skatepark need today? And how do you design one that’s truly for everyone?
That was the challenge the Municipality of Wassenaar and Carve set out to solve. The goal? A fresh, inclusive space designed for all forms of roller sports — skaters, scooter riders, bladers, and beyond.

Through a series of workshops with local users, guided by Carve together with the initiator Max Maarschalkerwaard and the project leader Jan Sinke, a shared vision for the future of Johan de Wittstraat took shape.
With the expert execution of Nineyard, the vision with skill and precision was brought to life. The result? A beautiful, modern skatepark that was officially opened last Wednesday by Alderman Wim Koetsier — and it’s already buzzing with energy!
At the heart of it all is a simple belief: We design spaces that grow with the community and bring people together.
