The Joaquim de Almeida Primary School, in the centre of Montijo, has been extended to include pre-school education and more primary classes. A volume was proposed that develops on the east side of the canteen building.

The new pavilion is characterised by Hi-Macs planes with triangles cut out in white, whose pattern is inspired by the triangular grids that can be seen in the rest of the school's buildings, marked by the simple, discreet style that characterised the Portuguese Primary Schools of the Estado Novo.

This ‘skin’ of shading allows for strong ventilation of the space and the greater or lesser density of the opening of the voids in the skin is intrinsically linked to the sun exposure and the levels of privacy desired inside. It is through this pattern that a relationship is established between the existing building and the proposed one.
