T1 Chopin Airport Warsawa renovation

The Project has a long history since 2002, when EL won the competition to design the expansion of the airport in Warsaw, which main element was the construction of Terminal T2, and its integration with the existing T1. This project was designed and finished by 2006, in 2009 contract for execution of southern pier and Modernization T1was signed. In its current form, the object implements the assumption of aesthetic and functional integration of the two terminals, which was essential for both parts of the airport, built in different decades and execution systems, to be one body and meet the requirements of modern European terminals. The newly created building has a uniform architectural expression and is characterized by a high standard of finish and apparent structure to the passengers, for fast and easy communication within the complex. An internal corridor enables access to suburban trains’ station, offering connection to the city center in about 25 minutes. The newly opened spaces continue the strip features system from the T2, giving the opportunity to serve another 5.5 million passengers a year in a B standard. The enlarged passengers’, clearance and technological zones are accompanied by additional commercial office and auxiliary spaces that make the facility more suited to users’ needs and every month increasing number of passengers. The newly opened complex with an area of over 160 thousand m2 of usable area will be able to serve more than 12.5 million passengers per year in the B standard by IATA. In the facility luggage system and other installation systems were rebuilt and modernized. On the roof there is the Poland’s largest photovoltaic system on public building. The current rise in passenger traffic at the airport in Warsaw (it cleared 10.6 million passengers in year 2014) confirms the validity of the decision about the need to increase the capacity of Terminal complex.
