La madera es una excelente solución para suelos cálidos, sofisticados y de alta calidad. Sin embargo, las restricciones de coste, durabilidad y grosor pueden hacer que los suelos de parquet sean la aplicación más adecuada para muchos espacios residenciales. Los suelos de parquet pueden transmitir el mismo nivel de artesanía y resistencia que las maderas naturales, siendo al mismo tiempo más resistentes, más fáciles de mantener o más económicos.
Los suelos de parquet multicapa se componen de dos o tres capas, diseñadas para evitar el alabeo natural de la madera y proporcionar una base sólida. La capa inferior suele ser de madera contrachapada resistente al agua a la que se pega una capa superior sólida con un adhesivo impermeable. Las capas superiores se cortan a partir de materia prima fresca -lo que les confiere el mismo acabado visual y material que las maderas duras- y se secan para evitar tensiones y decoloraciones.
Los suelos de parquet se acaban con revestimientos, barnices, aceites y ceras de alta calidad aplicados a la capa superior para conseguir durabilidad y acabados que van desde los grises y rojos hasta los rubios encalados. Las opciones de lamas anchas y finas están disponibles en varias longitudes, al igual que las formas geométricas no convencionales que dan un efecto tridimensional a las superficies. Los patrones de colocación van desde los clásicos irregulares y ladrillos hasta la tradicional espiga doble o triple. Limpios y sin nudos o, por el contrario, con muchos nudos para reproducir la sensación de un antiguo suelo de granja, los suelos de parquet conservan muchas de las características de la madera labrada a mano.
