Wooden cladding

Casa Kuvo was commissioned to us in 2021 for the coastal locality of Matanzas in Chile, known for its weather conditions that favor the practice of water and wind sports. The brief called for a small unit of only 70 m2, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, suited for a younger population and preferably spread across two stories to make the most of the views towards the ocean. Nestled in the Swiss Alps above Monthey, Switzerland, the eco-chalets coexist with the mountainside, creating a hospitality experience that preserves and cherishes its surrounding environment. Designed with groups and families in mind, the minimalist chalets are ideal for those looking to escape to the mountains with all the comforts and conveniences of a home. The structures are made entirely with Swiss materials and products, including larch wood-paneled exterior and interior millwork by a local fabricator.   These materials create a seamless transition between the structures and the surrounding mountains, while also evoking the design of a traditional Swiss chalet. In crafting The Standard Highline, the guestrooms had to speak to the ethos of The Standard while incorporating a finer material palette and making the experience sophisticated enough for the New York and international audiences. In contrast to the concrete shell of the building, Roman and Williams strived to give the rooms a warmth that harkened to a bee hive environment – organic and beautiful, but also efficient. The breathtaking views from the floor to ceiling starfire glass windows of the guestrooms served as the ideal backdrop to Roman and Williams’ open and airy design. La maison familiale au pied du parc national de la Fatra Veľká est placée à la frontière entre l'agglomération et la zone bâtie. Follement, la maison est située derrière les hummocks, de sorte que toute la formation de la matière vise à préserver le concept traditionnel d'apparence rurale. L'expression globale du volume de la maison est fragmentée par son paysage de toits en utilisant les types de deux toits à pignon, qui se graduent vers le haut. The challenge to create two different and independent dwelling units on the same site was fulfilled successfully because they follow the same design philosophy and are consolidated visually. Morphologically the houses are characterized by orthonormal, parallelepiped volumes, lined with wood panels which stand out from the primary white volume and reflect functionally the bedrooms. The exposed concrete elements come to add strength and simplicity in whole, functioning "compensatory " in the warm mood that the large wood surfaces give. The design intention of this bioclimatic residence in Limassol was to create a compact form that morphologically characterizes the building. Thus, all the functions and spaces were translated into solid compact volumes that created a composition, which was framed by an exposed concrete surface. This surface has a double role, since beyond the morphological signage of the project, it also functions as a passive solar protection device. In general, the design consists of simple geometries that touch the current minimalistic morphologies. The design of this house was based on minimalistic morphological choices, which were made in order to distinguish its architectural features, while the modernistic design patterns led to a result without decorations and any kind of exaggeration. Thus, the main idea is analyzed into the composition of two main volumes, which are separated by their function, but also by their material - exposed concrete for the public uses, white for the private ones. Generally, the design is driven by simple geometries, close to modernistic and minimalistic trends.
