Garden Conservatory

Victorian Garden Conservatory Client Project

This traditional Victorian Style Conservatory was designed to complement a period property in a landscaped garden. In the UK receiving Planning Permission when adding extensions such as a conservatory to a listed building, or one in a conservation area, can be difficult, unless the design is sympathetic to the building.

To achieve this, the conservatory has been erected on a dwarf wall built in brick that matches that of the main house. The glazing has been deliberately made in large panes that match the windows of the house, rather than Georgian glazing that is so popular in conservatories of this type.

Rather than leave the exterior in natural oak, the conservatory has been painted to match the window frames of the house and as a final detail, twin finials have been added to the roof of the conservatory reflecting those on the corners of the parapet of the house.

This conservatory sits comfortably in its surroundings as a result of careful landscaping and looks as though it has been an integral part of the property for many years, rather than a recent addition.
