HOPPA! Odeon

Old recipes, young brewers, authentic methods and new ingredients. With the increasing popularity of local microbreweries, Amsterdam is returning to the craft and simplicity of beer brewing. These beers have a home at HOPPA! in the historical Odeon building, which once was a brewery itself. Here you can get your fix of Amsterdam’s best thirst quenchers, craft beers and brews. In the small intimate bar, which is reminiscent of an old-fashion tasting room, the old and the new come together. By dipping the museum-like space in shocking neon orange, the interior reflects the balance between yesterday and tomorrow. The first beer brewed by HOPPA! is a light and cheeky seasonal beer for restaurant Happyhappyjoyjoy called HopHop. concrete created the name, identity and interior for HOPPA! The historical Odeon building also houses the new Supperclub and cocktailbar Apt.

WALK THROUGH HOPPA! is an intimate beer bar in the centre of Amsterdam, inspired by probably the most authentic location where beer was once brewed: the abbey. The historical Odeon building in which HOPPA! is located has many lavish ornamental elements. The historical details such as the ceiling artwork & marble fireplace and ornaments form the basis for the interior. With only 40 square metres, the focal point of the venue is the high blue steel and authentic Dutch white tiled back bar. The beer taps are integrated into the back wall, as they did in the old days. The rest of the wall features twenty-eight growlers hanging on hooks, reserved for returning customers who want to have a growler available at any time. Copper coloured nametags personify the wall. The growlers can be filled via the modern dispensing system, which makes HOPPA! a popular destination for those looking for fresh craft beer to go as well.

The bar counter is made of solid Jatoba wood, giving it a warm and welcoming feel. The robust, bulky abbey inspired standing tables, made of the same Jatoba wood, have a perfect height to lean on and feature storage space for glasses, which makes it easier to share your growler with friends. In front of the window stands a wall-to-wall, bespoke black stained wooden couch, upholstered with black leather. The Pipe chairs and tables – designed by Jasper Morrison for Magis – also have a black stained wooden finish. HOPPA! offers a balance between old and new. To emphasise the new, HOPPA! is literally dipped in neon orange. A neon orange painted board panel encompasses the entire interior of the bar.

IDENTITY HOPPA!’s graphic identity is a marriage between the old and the new. Creating a new logo with an ancient technique and font, it consists of bronze cast hand poured letters. As an addition to the existing font, the foundry developed an exclamation mark specifically for this design.
