The new Bridge over the river Drava is more than a transport connection for cyclists and pedestrians; it is a piece of cultural infrastructure that offers a new waterside recreational space to complement the existing network of waterside public spaces in Maribor.

The structural concept is simple but dynamic: the profile of the bridge skims the surface of the water once before springing up to cross to the far bank. At the lowest point the structure expands in plan to create a tiered waterside space that can accommodate events from cultural performances to informal recreation, whilst creating a new relationship between the water and users.

Fabricated from steel tubes and flat plate, the structure creates a rich pattern of rhythm, colour and shade as the section transforms from one side to the other.
