A 70’s inspired studio is nestled in the gallery - antique district of Hong Kong. A bright and calming space has been created for designers to think creatively.
The Studio is situated on Hollywood road, an area known for it’s central location and laid back bohemian vibes. Hong Kong is quite hectic so having a calming space for designers to think clearly and creatively is quite important. The studio’s proximity to galleries and old antique shops also adds positive stimulation for the designers.

The entrance is marked by a wooden door with a square shape window and a protruding frame which double as a handle. The interior of the Studio is filled with natural light, metal mullions are covered with Travertine plastered columns and ceiling is hand brushed with a reflective finish to make the space taller while brining more natural light inside, the soft earth tone palette makes it look more like a home than a commercial building.

The Studio creates a calm and relaxing space for the designers. Metal mullions are covered with Travertine plastered columns and walls are covered in woven wallpaper set in wooden stripes (echoing the rattan chairs by Pierre Jeanerette by Cassina). The ambience is designed like a home as suppose to a commercial office.

The studio showcases artwork created by myself as well as other artists. A custom marble sculpture entitled “Momento” which captures the softness of drappery. Marble has traditonally been a material which gives a feeling of permanence, in this occasion the artwork is meant to give a moment of pause and a sense of calmness to the audience, which goes in line with studio environment. The wall painting is also done by myself and the wooden foot sculpture is from Hatch Area.

The reception / conference area is designed like a living / dining area, during the day we host meetings and at night serve dinner parties. A dark green curtain helps provide privacy when needed. All tables and shelves are made in Travertine, paired with Pierre Jeanneret rattan chairs by Cassina. Custom light by Ricardo and candle holder by Menuspace.

We have only used one type of stone in the whole studio as that helps to create a distilled environment while highlighting the forms and shapes. We also liked the porous texture of Travertine. The custom “Mushroom” light is carved from a single block of Travertine, all tables and shelves are made from Travertine slabs, and all columns, custom tables and lamp shades in Travertine plaster finish.
Desk is designed like first class airline cabin as it gives each designer a sense of privacy and a space to think. Designers have a tendency to be quite messy at times, so these desks helps to hide their mess while being sculptural.
