UNDERGROUND SUN

The new subway station of Alboraya-Palmaret is built together with a big park which highlights the new platform in a natural manner.

The park has an approximated surface area of 6.000 square meters. It has seven terraces in different levels, leading us down, from the street to the hall of the new station. We can find in it resting areas, as well as playgrounds for children under the shadow of a large number of tress of different species.

The designed intervention on the old Palmaretstation,stands out for the removal of most of the old train platforms, allowing in this way the connection of the new park with the Horchata Avenue.

Already inside the station, two new important spaces emerge remarkably. The first one, is a big Hall with views over the park, conducting us naturally to the second area, the platform, with a high ceiling that provides the station of a great spatial sense.

The materials used in the project give a modern appearance toboth the station and the park and represent a reference for the whole Alboraya town.

Materials used:

- concrete (prefab or in situ) the difference is enhanced by chaging the direction of the wooden planks (horizontal for the prefabricated and vertical for the in situ) - glass, playing with transparency and primary colors through vinyls ( yellow, red and blue) - aluminium, in slats covering the concrete tunnel in order to dignify it and achieve a motion effect.

The station has been carried out in 2 stages:

STAGE 1_the underground station is built independently of the surface one. The park which acts as acces to the station is also developed.

STAGE 2_ (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)_The train is diverted from surface to underground.

The surface train line has been susbstituted by a pathway, that reminds the old train route but removes the barrier between the east and west parts of the town.

This pathway continues under the old station to connect with the underground station.

The old station stays in its place but a different use is introduced, a café.
